| Diamond Bank acquired a property on Adeola Odeku Street in Victoria Island. The property was originally designed for residential use. The building had just been vacated by another bank and we were asked by Diamond Bank to convert it for their use.
The conversion
of residential buildings to commercial developments
is a subjective and controversial matter that is presently
under serious debate in planning and architectural
circles.
The design consideration was conceptual, although
a previous branch designed by the firm, in Isolo was
more monumental than modern, given that this branch
was to rely more on modern day Information technology
infrastructure. The span was inspired by an earlier
design for an airport terminal building in lagos. This
concept became a prototype 1 for four other branches
in Warri, Enugu, Abuja and PortHarcourt.
Our firm
was also awarded to design and build three smaller
branches which became the second prototype 2 for barnches
in Abakaliki, Umuahia and Jos.
The total
floor area covered is approximately 670 square meters.
The property was taken over by the main contractor
and work started in June 1999. The project was completed
just below N40million ($400,000.00). This cost is
almost equally divided between civil works and services.
The services covered include air-conditioning, structured
cabling, lightening protection, close-circuit television,
PABX, neon lights, vault doors, generators, telecommunications
and transformer.
